Concrete Aggregate


UMIC has applied for several Mining Licence areas in the Province of Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, located near the Red Sea between Jeddah and Rabigh.

A range of deposits were indentified during a semi-regional geological investigation. Detailed geological and engineering studies were used to select deposits of sufficient size and that were most suitable for large scale mining operations. The selected deposits became the subject of the Mining Licence applications.

The target material is andesite, an igneous rock, which is considered one of the most suitable materials for the aggregate in concrete production.

The andesitic material will be mined by the conventional open-pit method, using drilling and blasting, with the resulting rock boulders processed in a Crusher Complex to aggregate. The produced aggregate will be less than 37mm in size. The units comprising the Crusher Complex have been carefully selected to insure that the produced aggregate will be of suitable shape and size gradation to be used in concrete ready mix and precast concrete industries, conforming to the ASTM and BS specifications.

There are several major industrial and infrastructure projects under construction or proposed in the region of the Mining Licences, providing a significant customer base for the UMIC concrete aggregate project.
